The Heinrich-Pette-Institute ‐ Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology (HPI), is committed to research on the biology of different human viruses as well as the pathogenesis of viral diseases. The HPI offers the opportunity to perform cutting-edge research in a world-class research environment with excellent technical facilities.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a strong interest in basic and translational immunology in the group of Prof. Altfeld.

NK cells play an important role in the control of viral infections, and can recognize and kill virus-infected cells. However, the molecular mechanisms by which human NK cells sense virus-infected cells are not well understood. Recently developed organoid systems allow for the first time to study viral infections of primary human cells, including hepatocyte and intestinal organoid systems. The overall goal of the project is to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which NK cells recognize virus-infected cells, using primary human cell models.
