The Institute for Mathematical Stochastics (Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science) of the Georg-August-University of Göttingen invites applications for a

PostDoc Position (f/m/d)

starting from October 1, 2021 or earlier for an initial duration of two years. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (E13 TV-L) at 100% of the regular working hours (currently 39.8 hours per week).

We are looking for highly-motivated applicants with a very good PhD thesis in mathematics who have an excellent background in probability theory, in particular in stochastic processes and random geometric structures and dynamics.

The advertised position is associated with the working group of Prof. Anja Sturm. The PostDoc is expected to enter actively in research collaborations at the institute within topics of stochastic processes and random geometric structures and dynamics. Such topics include but are not limited to: Interacting random particle systems, branching processes and random trees, random graphs and networks, also with spatial structure and evolving in time, scaling limits and phase transitions, noise sensitivity and stability, stochastic differential equations, also on manifolds. Our group is particularly interested in stochastic modelling of complex phenomena in biology, physics and information transmission. In addition, the position offers the freedom to do own independent research. Finishing a habilitation or the willingness to work toward it is very welcome.

Teaching duties for an equivalent of 4 hours of classes a week during the semester involve support for the lecture cycle "Stochastic processes" and the co-organization of seminars. Good English language skills are important, German language skills are useful but not required.
