The Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology is an internationally recognized neuroscientific research institute and dedicated to the research on learning and memory. Our research comprises all organizational levels of the brain – from molecular and cellular processes to complex neuronal networks and behavior. The Institute is a foundation under public law and committed to a comprehensive policy of Equal Opportunities in employment and research.

The DFG - funded research training program SynAGE (RTG 2413/www.synage.de ) seeks two highly motivated

PhD students/doctoral students (f/m/d)

to join a team of researchers from the Research Group Neuroplasticity NPLAST at the Leibniz-Institute for Neurobiology in Magdeburg (www.lin-magdeburg.de). The training program is focused on the different facets of synaptic aging in health and disease. The posts are available initially for a 3-year fixed-term period with a salary of TV-L E 13 (65%) starting latest January 1st 2022.

The projects

The two thesis projects will address the interplay of synaptic insulin resistance and amyloid-pathology in high-risk aging and provide an inventory of membrane lipids as well as the synaptic proteome in senescent mice. We will try to understand which synaptic changes underlie cognitive decline in aging and which measures can be taken to improve cognition. The Research Group NPlast offers a broad range of techniques to address these questions (www.kreutzlab.com ).
