The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung (IKZ) is a leading research institution in the area of science & technology as well as service & transfer of crystalline materials. PhD student position (m/f/d)

“SiGe-based heterostructures for quantum technologies”

Job description:

SiGe-based heterostructures constitute the most promising platform for emerging quantum technologies, such as quantum computing and simulation. Group IV semiconductors convince with their compatibility with semiconductor industry and their potential to be employed as spin-neutral environments by utilizing isotopically enriched Si and Ge. As a member of our group, you will grow such heterostructures from isotopically enriched material by state-of-the-art molecular beam epitaxy, profit from our interdisciplinary international collaborations, and modern materials science characterization. We are looking for a candidate with strong communication skills, the assertiveness to work in an internationally positioned institute, willing to formulate their own scientific ideas.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in physics, chemistry, materials science or related fields
• Knowledge of semiconductor materials, devices, epitaxial growth, in particular MBE, and thin film characterization
• Motivation and capability to do scientific work, as well as its documentation and presentation
• Proficiency in spoken and written English is necessary, German skills are appreciated

What we offer:

The position is limited to three years. Payment is according to TVöD-Bund (75%) (Treaty for German public service).
