At the chair of "Developmental Genetics" located at "Institute of Developmental Genetics" at the Helmholtz Center Munich, our group combines cutting-edge cell and protein engineering methods for developing novel molecular tools to precisely manipulate the genome and transcriptome of cells and organisms. We apply these tools to various disease models ranging from cell lines, patient-derived stem cells to mouse models. In the past, we used our CRISPR/Cas-based technologies to treat devasting diseases like Parkinson’s Disease, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, or COVID-19 in cellular and animal models. The successful candidate will push these efforts forward, by developing next-generation Gene Editing and Delivery technologies.

Dear Student, the precise requirements of this position are as follows:

1.Responsibilities

- Molecular engineering of novel Gene Editing technologies
- Development of next-generation Delivery modalities
- Analysis of disease models, treated with therapeutic tools
- Writing of manuscripts and drafting of scientific illustrations
- Contribution to patent applications and commercialization strategies

2.Qualifications

- Outstanding degree in Bioengineering / Molecular Biotechnology / Biochemistry or related fields
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of advanced DNA cloning techniques
- Experience in mammalian cell engineering and / or protein engineering
- Profound knowledge of Genome Editing technologies (e.g. Cas9, Cas13, Base Editing, Prime Editing, CRISPRa/i)
- Hands-on experience in cellular assays and analytical techniques (e.g. Luciferase assays, Fluorescence microscopy, Immunohistochemistry, Immunoblotting)
- Strong motivation, driven by scientific curiosity
- Deep passion for innovation and application-focused research
- Enthusiasm to work in a highly competitive field
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English

Embedded in the flourishing research environment of two world-class universities, renowned research institutes in the greater Munich area, and equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, the Helmholtz Center Munich is an outstanding place for conducting research and for career development. Beyond scientific excellence, Munich offers a wide range of leisure activities ranging from numerous lakes to the close vicinity of the alps.

We are looking forward to receiving your application, including a letter of motivation, CV, and academic transcripts of records to ‘[email protected]’. In addition, we ask applicants to draft a 1-page hypothetical research proposal. Tell us about a research topic that excites you and how you would tackle this problem.
