PhD student or PostDoc (m/f/d)

in the Division of Biophysics

The position is offered for 3 years.

The Research Center Borstel (FZB) is an internationally operating Lung Center within the Leibniz Association, financed by the Federal Government and the State of Schleswig-Holstein. Our central task is basic and translational research in the field of respiratory diseases. We operate extensive laboratory and research infrastructures. Academically, we are closely linked with neighboring universities (Lübeck, Kiel) and clinically with the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein. Our goal is to improve existing methods for the detection, prevention and treatment of lung diseases and to develop new, innovative therapeutic approaches.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Work on the project "High-resolution analysis of synergistic effects between membrane active peptides and classical antibiotics on bacterial membranes", funded by Leibniz Gemeinschaft
  • Completion of a doctoral thesis, presentation of the results at conferences, starting national and international collaborations
  • Characterization of the membrane interaction of antimicrobial peptides with biophysical methods
  • Special focus is on Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Cryo Electron Microscopy
  • Highly interdisciplinary working field in collaboration with different groups
  • The work is carried out partly at the Research Center Borstel and partly at the Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CCSB) in Hamburg on the DESY campus

YOUR QUALIFICATION

  • PhD student: Completed university master degree in biophysics, biochemistry or related field
  • PostDoc: Completed PhD degree in biophysics, biochemistry or related field
  • Interest in interdisciplinary work
  • Commitment to contribute to the team of the biophysics research group
  • Independent project management
  • Experience in membrane biophysics is desirable
