At the department Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, we are looking for a PhD candidate to contribute to the BMBF funded project “Implementing Personalized Medicine for COPD Prevention and Treatment (PerMed-COPD)”. PerMed-COPD comprises a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, experimentalists, computer scientists and patient representatives working in partnership with a medium-sized company to implement a Personalized Medicine platform for COPD prognosis, treatment and prevention. PerMed-COPD is to develop and refine an automated clinical decision-making tool for personalized treatment concepts based on the comprehensive integration of data from clinical records, clinical lab results and medical imaging (“radiomics”).

Your tasks and responsibilities

• Development of an advanced, multidimensional CT image segmentation application for assessment of chronic diseases, specifically osteoporosis.
• Expansion of the central research database, in particular integration of multicenter studies
• Digitization and automation of data-driven research projects
• Integration and evaluation of clinical data in imaging research projects

Prerequisites

• A university degree in computer science, mathematics, physics or engineering science (diploma/ master's degree) or an equivalent degree is required
• A strong interest in medical imaging and computing is expected
• An excellent mathematical background and experience in software development is required
• Experience in developing and applying statistical and/or machine learning-based computational methods to large datasets is desired
• Knowledge in programming languages such as C++ or Python, experience with relevant developer toolkits for DICOM data including MITK, nnU-Net and GE PACS as well as graphics libraries (VTK) is an advantage
