The German Heart Center of the Free State of Bavaria associated to the Technical University of Munich is a clinic with international reputation and a state of the art technical and medical equipment. The Sager Laboratory of cardiovascular inflammation at the Department of Cardiology is seeking a PhD student (m/f/d) The "European Research Council starting grant" research group of Dr. Hendrik Sager is looking to recruit a highly motivated PhD student to join a dynamic international research team at the German Heart Center Munich, department of cardiology. Our research focusses on the role of the immune system in cardiovascular disease. Specifically, we are interested in the origin, function and fate of innate immune cells (monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils) in atherosclerosis and wound healing after myocardial infarction. Based on new mechanistic understanding, we seek to develop novel therapeutic concepts. We are part of the German Heart Center Munich and aim translate our findings to better understand and improve human health. We are funded by the “European Research Council (ERC Starting Grant 2017 awarded to H. Sager)”, "Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft", "Deutsches Zentrum für Herz-Kreislauf-Forschung", "Else-Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung" and "Deutsche Herzstiftung".

Profile/Requirements:
- An excellent command of flow cytometry techniques, in addition to standard molecular biology
- Strong interest in cardiovascular research
- Accuracy and reliability, initiative, organisational skills and a high sense of responsibility
- Very good written and spoken English
- High level of communication skills
- Ability to work in a team
