PhD Position (TVL E13, 65%) – Regulatory long non-coding RNAs and chromatin biology in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum

The newly established research group of Michael Filarsky at the Interfaculty Institute for Biochemistry (IFIB) at the University of Tübingen, is looking for a

PhD student (m/f/d)

to investigate the role of long non-coding RNAs in controlling cell fate decisions in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. The project is part of an ERC starting grant project, which aims to elucidate the mechanisms behind the epigenetic control of gene expression switching in P. falciparum. In particular we are interested in uncovering the molecular factors, that link environmental signals, chromatin states and cell cycle progression during the red blood cell stages of the parasite.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a candidate with a high level of motivation, dedication to experiments, openness to learn new techniques and a collaborative mindset. An extensive background in cell and molecular biology, with a master’s degree in molecular cell biology, molecular genetics, biochemistry, or an equivalent discipline is a prerequisite. Experience working with Plasmodium, in RNA biology or chromatin biology is certainly an advantage.

What we offer:

We offer a fully funded position (TVL E13, 65%, 3 years (extension possible) and the possibility to work on an exciting and intellectual challenging project on the forefront of P. falciparum biology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to use cutting-edge technologies ranging from CRISPR/Cas9 based genome editing and super resolution microscopy, to state-of-the-art methodology to study chromatin and regulatory non-coding RNAs. Our lab is located in the IFIB building of the University of Tübingen, which provides a lively and collaborative research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and outstanding resources and support.

How to apply:
