The research training group “Chemical Biology of Ion Channels (Chembion)” at the University of Münster (WWU), Germany, is offering a position in the group of Timo Strünker at the Centre of Reproductive Medicine and Andrology initially limited to 3 years.

Salary according to TV-L E 13 (65%)

An interdisciplinary group of 13 scientists from the University of Münster has teamed up to study the pharmacology and physiology of ion channels using innovative chemical tools, train PhD students in the field of chemical biology, and foster their internationalization and development towards independent scientist.

The group of Timo Strünker investigates the molecular pharmacology and physiology of ion channels controlling the function of human sperm using, e.g., electrophysiology, protein biochemistry, and microscopy. We are seeking scientists interested in developing and characterizing novel chemical tools, e.g., inhibitors, to unravel the role of ion channels in male infertility and identifying ligand-binding sites on ion channels in sperm. The project will be conducted in a multidisciplinary setting within the Chembion Research Training Group, i.e. in close cooperation with biologists, chemists, and physicists.

Your qualifications:
Commitment to work in a multidisciplinary setting (required)
Motivation to participate in a structured PhD training programme (required)
Interest in studying the function of ion channels involved in reproduction (required)
Master in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy, physics, or similar (required)
Experience in techniques to study the function of ion channels and/or receptors (desired, but not required)

Our offer:
Structured PhD training programme
International, dynamic, and motivated working group
Committed mentoring
Research laboratories with state-of-the art equipment
Innovative technologies
Excellent possibilities for career development
