Description

The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a world-leading internationally oriented research center, committed to discovering new approaches to prevent and treat neurodegenerative diseases. To this end, researchers at ten DZNE sites across Germany pursue a translational and interdisciplinary strategy comprising five interconnected areas: fundamental research, clinical research, health care research, population health science, and systems medicine. www.dzne.de

The DZNE in Bonn advertises a position as

PhD student (f/m/x) – Code 1195/2023/3

with a focus on disease mechanisms of self-templating protein aggregates.

The laboratories led by Prof. Ina Vorberg and Prof. Markus Zweckstetter study molecular and cellular mechanisms of protein misfolding. In a collaborative project, we investigate the impact of small molecules on liquid-liquid phase separation of the Alzheimer disease-related protein Tau in vitro and in Tau biosensor cells. To this end, we perform biophysical, biochemical and cell biological analyses and use state-of-the-art technology such as automated image-based high content screening.

The research of the candidate will include the development of cell-based assays and high content screens using selected compound libraries. We are looking for a PhD student with excellent practical and theoretical skills and a strong interest in cell biological aspects of neurodegenerative diseases and drug development. The successful applicant should hold a Master’s degree in cell biology or related fields. Experience in research on neurodegenerative diseases, viral vectors, cell-based screening assays and/or image analysis would be an advantage. The candidate should be able to work independently and have excellent team working skills. A written and oral command of English is essential.

We offer

·         A highly relevant research topic

·         A cutting-edge infrastructure

·         An international environment and excellent working conditions

  • Employment, payment and social benefits are consistent with those at other research institutes
