Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Paul-Drude-Institut für Festkörperelektronik (PDI) performs basic research as a lively symbiosis of materials science and solid state physics. Our research aims at inspiring and demonstrating new functionalities for future information technologies. As a member of the Leibniz-Gemeinschaft and Forschungsverbund Berlin we are an independent research institute with about 100 employees and collaborate with all three universities in Berlin. We are located in the very heart of the city near Gendarmenmarkt.

PhD student (f/m/d)

(Si,Ge,Sn)O2-based ultra-wide bandgap semiconductors for power electronics (SiGOPE)

PDI offers excellent expertise and facilities for the growth and investigation of new semiconductor materials and is leading the Leibniz Science Campus Growth and Fundamentals of Oxides for electronic applications, grafox.pdi-berlin.de .

Rutile-GeO2 is an ultra-wide bandgap semiconductor predicted to outperform the currently investigated Ga2O3 for energy-efficient power electronics applications. For harnessing the predicted potential of GeO2, the collaborative project SiGOPE seeks you as a PhD student. You will develop the plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy and doping of rutile-GeO2 followed by exploring its extension to the rutile-(Si,Ge,Sn)O2 material system. This includes basic structural and electrical characterization of the grown samples. Your research will benefit from our expertise in oxide epitaxy, the close collaboration with SiGOPE project partners (for bulk growth, transmission electron microscopy, and devices), and the collaboration with our international and GraFOx partners.

You should have a master degree in physics, materials science, or a related field. Experience with epitaxy, materials characterization, and publications is a plus. We are looking for a self-reliant, bright, and creative team player with a high level of communication skills and the assertiveness to work in a highly motivated team of researchers and technicians.

This position is temporary. Payment is according to TVöD Bund (Treaty for German public service). Being certified family-friendly, PDI is pursuing a gender equality policy. Women are therefore particularly encouraged to apply. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to disabled candidates.

Please submit your application as PDF file via email by Feb. 20, 2022 to recruiting(at)pdi-berlin.de with reference to project SiGOPE in the subject, including a dedicated cover letter, CV, publication list, letter(s) of recommendation, degree(s) and transcript(s). For questions on the project, contact Dr. Oliver Bierwagen, bierwagen(at)pdi-berlin.de .
