Offer Description

The Faculty of Medicine is one of the four founding faculties of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. With its non-clinical facilities as well as its research and teaching area corresponding to the organisational units of the University Hospital, it is one of the largest medical training and research institutions in Baden-Württemberg.The Department of Preclinical Imaging and Radiopharmacy and the Department of Dermatology is looking for a

PhD student (f/m/d) in Molecular Immune Cell Imaging in Cancer

for the research group of PD Dr. Manfred Kneilling (Immunology) in the field of Immunology / Biology / Biochemistry. The position can be filled as soon as possible in part time (65 %) and is initially limited for one year with the possibility of further extension.

Our research links two emerging scientific fields – the investigation of novel anti-cancer immunotherapies and the development of novel imaging targets with a strong focus on clinical translation.
Project description:
The project will investigate T cell-based immunotherapies in different tumor models using modern in vivo imaging techniques like PET and MRI combined with MR spectroscopy for cellular and metabolic molecular imaging. We will uncover immune cell migration patterns and their impact on the cellular components and metabolism of the tumor microenvironment and the lymphatic organs. Fundamental and novel immunological in vitro cell assays, immunohistochemistry, and in vitro immunophenotyping using multicolor flow cytometry complement the in vivo imaging studies. Our goal is to detect novel markers for molecular imaging of immunotherapies and to develop new treatment combinations.
Requirements:
We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated candidates, eager to work and evolve in a highly interdisciplinary environment with biologists, chemists, physicists, and physicians. The ideal candidate should hold a Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or similar life sciences, and be interested to work at the interface of immunology, biochemistry, and imaging science. Experience in the work with murine tumor models and/or molecular imaging techniques like PET, MRI, and spectroscopy is considered beneficial. Experience in tumor biology, immunology, and/or biochemistry is helpful. Excellent English communication and presentation skills are mandatory as the candidate will work in an international group and will travel and participate in national and international scientific conferences.

The successful candidate can grow in a lively and interactive working atmosphere within a well-connected network of PhD students and scientists in the dynamic city of Tübingen.
