At the Institute of Radiooncology – OncoRay scientists specializing in medicine, physics, biology and IT work together to crucially improve the treatment of cancer by administering radiation therapy that is biologically-personalized and technically-optimized.

As part of the Institute, the Department of Medical Radiation Physics invites applications as PhD Student (f/m/d) Experimental MR-integrated proton therapy.

The position will be available from 1 November 2021. The employment contract is limited to three years.


Tasks:

Elaboration of scientific results in the field of MR image guided proton therapy in the research group "Experimental MR-integrated proton therapy" (Dr. Aswin Hoffmann), especially on the subject of "physical-technical realization of MR-integrated proton therapy on a horizontal scanned beam line".

As the basis for the preparation of the dissertation, the specific tasks include:

  • Carrying out literature research
  • Planning, execution and evaluation of combined radiation and imaging experiments
  • Planning, execution and evaluation of computer simulations
  • Publication and presentation of scientific results

Requirements:
  • Master of Science in Physics, Engineering Physics, Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering or a related subject area obtained with above-average qualifications
  • ln-depth knowledge of radiation physics and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is highly advantageous
  • Experience with radiation treatment planning / delivery and radiation dosimetry
  • Very good experimental and computer programming skills
  • Excellent communication and team working skills in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Motivation and discipline to carry out research independently
  • Fluently written and spoken English
