A 3-year PhD (or alternatively 2-year PostDoc) position is available asap at the Professorship of Ecoclimatology of Technical University of Munich in collaboration with the Institute of Zoology, Poznan University of Life Sciences, on the topic „Citizen Science Nature Watch – keeping an eye on nature and citizens”. Starting date is as soon as possible.

The focus group “Citizen Science Nature Watch” at TUM-IAS is linked to the TUM professorship of Ecoclimatology (www.oekoklimatologie.wzw.tum.de) and the Institute of Zoology at the Poznan University of Life Sciences (http://zoologia.up.poznan.pl). Based on complementary scientific expertise on climate change impacts on terrestrial plants and animals as well as on ecology and climatology, we aim - by merging relevant citizen science data sources - at identifying phenological match-mismatches and modelling spatio-temporal patterns of human activities in nature in a “digital twin” approach.


The tasks
  • preprocessing of various citizen science data sets of nature observations 
  • statistical modelling of digital traces of human activity in nature as well as of phenological mismatches
  • publishing of excellent peer-reviewed publications
  • intensive collaboration with colleagues at the Poznan University

Your profile
  • highly qualified and motivated with a degree in biology, ecology / environmental sciences, applied mathematics, statistics or related fields
  • proven experience in scientific data analysis and very good programming skills in R or any other statistical software
  • strong interest in research questions related to ecology and citizen science data • strong motivation to work independently and efficiently
  • excellent ability to communicate, present, and write in English
