The Institute of Applied Physiology at the Medical Faculty of Ulm University, Germany offers

Two PhD positions in Molecular & Cellular Neuroscience (m/f/d).

We offer an interdisciplinary research team with international collaborations, integrated in an exciting scientific environment at the University of Ulm & the University of Oxford. In a Wellcome Trust funded project, together with the Oxford Parkinson‘s disease Centre (OPDC), as well as within the DFG-funded SFB-1506, we analyse the mechanisms of differential neuronal vulnerability in Aging and in Parkinson‘s disease. We focus on the role of ion channels and activity-related Ca2+ signalling.

Our methods deployed include state-of-the-art in vivo and in vitro neuroscience techniques like high-end imaging & electrophysiology, targeted CRISPR/Cas9, and single cell transcriptomics approaches (further info at: https://www.uni-ulm.de/med/angewphys/).

As start-date, summer-term 2022 is envisioned, but a prior or later start is possible.

The positions are funded according to the German TV-L system. The PhD positions can be embedded within the International Graduate school “Molecular Medicine” at Um University (IGradU).

Applicants will hold an outstanding MSc degree or equivalent in neuroscience, life science or a related subject, and are fluent in English.

Experience in neuroscience as well as in molecular biology, bioinformatics, imaging, and/or electrophysiological techniques are desired and of advantage. Successful applicants are self-motivated team workers and enthusiastic about science, with strong communication skills and diligent work ethics.
