In the group of Experimental Physics of Functional Spin Systems at Department of Physics, Technical University Munich, two PhD positions are immediately available in the field of Skyrmionics. The research project is part of the cluster of excellence Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST).

We are working on the understanding of magnetization dynamic of magnetic textures like skyrmions. These magnetic textures can be envisaged as nanometer sized twists in magnetization of otherwise collinear magnets. They are of particular interest due to their robust properties and small size in applications of data storage and quantum information technology. We investigate the dynamic properties of skyrmions that are governed by the topology of these spin texture and explore novel phenomena that occur due to the interplay between spin currents and skyrmions.
We combine advanced fabrication techniques (UV and e-beam lithography techniques including other clean room facilities), a range of materials deposition tools (molecular beam epitaxy, sputtering, pulsed laser deposition, etc.) and a number of sophisticated characterization techniques including broadband ferromagnetic resonance and magneto-transport, resonance x-ray elastic scattering.
