IEK-3 - Techno-ökonomische Systemanalyse
Area of research:
PHD Thesis
Job description:
The energy transition is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century. At the Institute of Energy and Climate Research - Techno-economic Systems Analysis (IEK-3), we use integrated models to research which technologies energy systems must be composed of to make them particularly affordable and climate-friendly. Become part of our international research team and take a look into the future of our energy system. Your work will not only enable you to make forecasts about future capacity expansion, but also to gain a broad overview of a wide range of technologies and their synergies. Support us in providing orientation knowledge for government, industry and society for the success of the energy transition by joining our team in the topic areas of infrastructures and sector coupling.
Your Job:
We welcome committed new colleagues who want to join us in finding solutions for a successful energy transition towards climate neutrality. Your tasks include among others:
- Conducting scientific studies in the context of suitability and conversion of gas transmission and distribution networks to transport and distribute hydrogen
- Identification of possible contributions of the gas distribution networks to support the heat transition
- Modelling and programming of infrastructure models mainly in Python
- Supervision of students
- Participation in project meetings and collaboration with project partners
- Presentation of your research results at (international) meetings and conferences as well as publication in relevant scientific journals
Do you find these topics exciting and enjoy modeling and analyzing energy systems? Then please apply!
Your Profile:
- Above-average university degree (master’s degree) in engineering (energy technology, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, process engineering, industrial engineering), physics or a comparable degree program
- Knowledge in energy technology and ideally in energy system modelling and energy economics
- Programming skills, ideally in Python
- Fluent English and/or German language skills, both written and spoken
- Distinct ability to work in a team as well as the ability to work cooperatively
- Independent and analytical way of working
Our Offer:
Join us in helping to find solutions for the energy transition. We support you in your work through:
- A highly motivated and international team in one of the largest research facilities in Europe
- Excellent scientific and technical infrastructure - optimal conditions for extensive system analyses
- Best conditions for successful work in a home office
- Opportunity to participate in (international) conferences
