The German Primate Center (DPZ) - Leibniz Institute for Primate Research is one of 96 research and infrastructure establishments of the Leibniz Association. It conducts basic biological and biomedical research in all fields in which non-human primates play essential roles: in particular in neurosciences, infection research, and organismic primate biology.
The junior research group “Visual Circuits and Repair” offers a
Ph.D. Position (m/f/d)
(TV-L E 13, 65%) in therapy development to treat visual diseases
Topic: Restoration of vision in non-human primates
Start: As soon as possible
Funded by: DFG
Duration: 5 years
The aim of this translational, interdisciplinary project is to develop and establish new therapeutic procedures to restore vision, to be applied ultimately in blind patients via collaborations with neurosurgery and eye clinics. The program offers insight into application of state-of-the-art molecular tools and optogenetics as well as the development of novel brain-machine interfaces.
Applicants must hold a diploma in veterinary medicine and should have a keen interest in translational neuroscience; ideally, with prior experience with in vivo experiments.
The junior group Visual Circuits and Repair is embedded in the Functional Imaging Laboratory which is a multi-disciplinary research group with focus on the development of novel imaging techniques for preclinical and translational research. Imaging platforms include state-of-the-art magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging systems (clinical 3T whole-body MR system and preclinical small animal 9.4T MR system) and two-photon imaging.
The appointment at DPZ follows the regulations of civil service. Applicants with disabilities and equal qualifications will be given preferential consideration. We kindly ask you to indicate in your application if you are disabled. Please send your motivation letter, CV (including all certificates) until the 28.2.2022 under keyword “Restore Vision” via mail to bewerbung(at)dpz.eu .
For further information please contact Dr. Daniel Hillier (+49 (0)551-3851-278, dhillier(at)dpz.eu ).
