A PhD position (75% TV-L E13) in the area of Discrete Optimization is available at the TUM Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability (TUMCS).

The position is located at the Professorship of Complex Networks (https://cnw.cs.tum.de/ ), which belongs to Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HSWT) and the TUM Department of Mathematics within the School of CIT. The professorship is located at the TUM Campus Straubing. The expected starting date for the position is 15 May 2023 or later. The successful candidate will work on a PhD project in the area of Discrete Optimization related, e.g., to topics such as network and graph algorithms or approximation algorithms.

Your tasks:

  • Scientific cooperation in research projects of the Professorship of Complex Networks
  •  Presentation of research results at scientific meetings and conferences
  • Collaboration in the writing of research articles
  • Teaching of courses in Mathematics / Statistics as well as participation in the supervision of bachelor's and master's theses

Your profile:

  • Above-average Master’s degree in Mathematics, Economathematics, or Computer Science with a focus/major in Operations Research, Discrete Optimization, or Discrete Algorithms
  • Profound mathematical modeling and programming skills
  •  Very good command of spoken and written English and German
