PhD‐Position in Theoretical Solid State Physics (m/f/d)

Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) is a non-university research institute and a member of the Leibniz Association. The IFW employs approximately 600 people and one focus is on the training of young scientists (m/f/d) besides enhancing fundamental and applied research development. At the highest international level, the IFW operates modern materials science on a scientific basis and makes the obtained results useful for the economy. The complex and interdisciplinary research work is carried out within the IFW by five scientific institutes, which are supported by a highly developed technical infrastructure. The IFW supports its employees (m/f/d) in reconciling work and family life and regularly submits to the berufundfamilie® audit.

PhDPosition in Theoretical Solid State Physics (m/f/d)

The Institute for Solid State Physics and Material research, IFW Dresden, is currently looking for an excellent student (m/f/d) to fill a Doctoral Researcher Position in the theory of magnetic excitations of helical and topological spin structures.

The doctoral research aims to investigate helical and topological spin structures in centrosymmetric materials, to understand magnetic interactions underpinning novel skyrmion- and hedgehog-lattice phases and low energy magnetic excitations. The research will be carried out in an international collaborative environment with strong interaction with the experimental groups investigating the magnetic excitations of helical and topological spin structures in SrFeO₃ and Sr₃Fe₂O₇.

We offer an attractive work place with excellent research facilities and a family-friendly environment in Dresden. The employment contract is limited to 36 months. The remuneration is based upon the TV-L rules (EG 13 TV-L, 50%). We expect from the successful candidate (m/f/d) a Master’s degree in Physics (a background in Theoretical Solid State Physics) as well as high motivation, creativity, and interest in shaping his/her thesis project. Very good communication skills in English are a further expectation.

The institute promotes professional equality between all genders. In science, the IFW Dresden would like to increase the proportion of a woman. Qualified women are therefore explicitly invited to apply. Equally qualified handicapped applicants (m/f/d) will be given preference.

Applications should contain a CV, a motivation letter describing the research career goals, skills and experience, copies of all certificates, and names, and contact details of two references. Please send your application citing the reference number 056-21-1002 not later than August 10, 2021 as a single pdf-file (other formats will not be accepted) to bewerbung(at)ifw-dresden.de .
