The Department of Informatics at the Technical University of Munich is looking for an outstanding applicant for a PhD position in Neuroprosthetics

About us

The research activity of the Neuroprosthetics and Human-Centered Robotics Lab focuses on the areas of bionic prostheses and assistive robotics. Our main research interests include the study of human movement, the design of bionic prostheses and wearable devices based on soft robotics technologies, the development of advanced control algorithms and innovative assessments for upper limb rehabilitation using emerging technologies, such as virtual reality.


The focus of the research is on developing advanced control algorithms and strategies, which go beyond the conventional and state-of-the-art. An additional goal is to explore the rehabilitation experience using virtual reality systems and provide innovative solutions to patients.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in control, electronics, machine learning or virtual reality systems. Experiences with bionic prostheses or wearable robotics are a plus.


  • an MSc degree (or equivalent) in robotics, mechatronics, computer science, mechanical engineering or related field by the start date
  • experience with Matlab, Python, C/C++
  • demonstrate interest in human biomechanics and application of robotics in rehabilitation
  • experience in process and analyze objective and subjective data
  • excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • a creative, result-oriented and collaborative approach.

Any of the following skills will be a plus:

  • Previous experience in mechanical design
  • Previous experience in biomechanics
  • Previous experience with motion capture systems, ROS (Robot Operating System) and Unity
  • Previous experience on tests with human subjects
  • Fluency in German
