The recently established Helmholtz Young Investigator Group of Dr. Thibaud Humair in DESY Belle II group is seeking to hire a PhD student. After a shutdown in 2023, the Belle II experiment in Japan has just restarted collecting data in February 2024. The DESY Belle II group is involved in data analyses focusing on B- and tau-physics. In addition, the group is involved in the commissioning of the Belle II pixel vertex detector and in the development of the tracking software. The PhD position is based at DESY Hamburg, with an affiliation with the University of Goettingen, which will grant the doctoral degree.
About your role:
- The main task will be related to the analysis of the new Belle II data with focus on rare decays of B-meson and CP-violation, using modern machine-learning techniques to maximise the analysis reach
- Contribution to the commissioning and software development for the newly-upgraded pixel detector
- Contribution to the operation of the detector (shift) and presentations at international work- shops and conferences
About you:
- Diploma/Masters in Physics with excellent grades
- Interest in particle physics experiments
- Good teamwork and communications skills
- Good English language skills
- Ability and eligibility to travel to Japan
