The Institute of Physiology, School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Oldenburg, Germany, offers a position of a
PhD position in auditory neuroscience
(E13 TV-L, 65 % limited to 3 years)
Our group is seeking a talented and highly motivated doctoral student (PhD candidate) eager to work on a technically challenging neuroscience project using cutting edge methodology.
Our research focuses on cellular mechanisms underlying synaptic transmission and signal processing in the central auditory system. The auditory brainstem synapses under investigation are morphologically and biophysically specialized to enable temporally precise transfer of auditory information used for sound source localization. Our scientific questions are addressed by employing electrophysiology and imaging methods in vivo and in vitro, such as single-unit in vivo recordings, patch clamp in acute brain slices and two-photon microscopy.
Requirements:
The candidate must hold an academic university degree (Master or equivalent) in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, physics, experimental biomedicine or comparable subjects, having a special interest in neuroscience and willingness to perform animal research. Documented experience in electrophysiology (in vivo - multiunit, single unit recordings; in vitro patch – clamp) or imaging techniques is highly desirable. Knowledge of signal analysis, particularly of electrophysiological data is favorable. Experience in working with rodents is beneficial. As a member of our international group, the candidate must have a good command of written and spoken English.
We offer:
Our group is part of an interdisciplinary research cluster for sensory neurobiology with emphasis on auditory neuroscience. As a member of the Cluster of Excellence „Hearing4All“, the University of Oldenburg provides a vibrant and intellectual environment from basic science to clinical research and practical application and offers ideal opportunities for a comprehensive PhD training integrated in the „Research Center Neurosensory Science“. Finally, the Principal Investigator is committed to career development of trainees.
Carl von Ossietzky University is aiming at increasing the number of women in science. Applications of women are specifically invited. Applicants with disabilities and equivalent qualifications will be given preference.
Please send your application containing a motivation letter, CV and a list of publications (if available) in a single PDF until 01.11.2021 via e-mail (preferred) to [email protected] or to Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, Department für Humanmedizin, Abteilung Physiologie, Sarah Ebendt, Raum W02 1-169, Carl von Ossietzky Strasse 9 – 11, 26129 Oldenburg, Germany.
