We are an international research group located in the environment of the Göttingen research campus and have a tight network of international and national cooperations.

PhD positions on mitochondrial biology are currently available in the group of Peter Rehling. At the campus in Göttingen we have close cooperations with groups in the Max-Planck Institute Multidisciplinary Science, the Faculty of Biology, and the University Medical Center.

We offer exciting and highly stimulating environment.

Activities and responsibilities:

We are seeking doctoral students with interested in working on molecular aspects of mitochondrial protein biogenesis. The project aims to identify the molecular mechanisms by which translation in human mitochondria is regulated in order to provide an optimal supply of proteins to cope with cellular demands. Special emphasis is given to the implication of this regulatory process for the pathology of mitochondrial disorders. Our work utilizes a wide range of molecular biological, biochemical and genetic approaches and aims to develop new model systems for functional analyses.

We offers state of the art equipment and a well-connected area to other research groups on campus and at the Max-Planck Institute.

Qualification profile:

  • Master's degree, experience in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Medicine or equivalent
  • highly motivated and team-worker with international coworkers
  • experience in molecular biology, biochemistry or cell biology

The University Medical Center Göttingen is committed to professional equality. We therefore seek to increase the proportion of under-represented genders. Applicants with disabilities and equal qualifications will be given preferential treatment.
