Your duties
As part of the project team the Research Assistant will investigate colonization and extinction dynamics of belowground animal communities in salt marsh ecosystems driven by species’ traits such as body size, mobility or trophic position. This will include studying (i) the structure of belowground arthropod communities and their spatiotemporal dynamics, (ii) the trophic structure of belowground animal taxa, such as Collembola, Oribatida, Gamasida and Staphylinidae, using stable isotope and compound-specific amino acid analysis, and (iii) traits driving extinction/emigration and colonization processes, as well as community assembly in belowground animal communities.

Your profile
• You hold a completed master/diploma degree in biological sciences or a closely related field.
• You have a background or strong interest in soil ecology, soil biodiversity and/or coastal invertebrate ecology.
• You are experienced in doing field and lab work.
• You are curious about linking phylogenetic and ecological approaches for understanding community assembly.
• You have experience in statistical methods and you are familiar in using R.
• You have good oral and written English language skills.
• You are interested in teaching, supervising and working with students.
