A PhD position is available in the laboratory for Cellular Protein Biochemistry at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) Department of Chemistry.
Our laboratory aims at understanding how proteins fold, assemble and are scrutinized by the cellular quality control machinery. We use an interdisciplinary approach from protein biochemistry to cell biology to analyze the machinery and mechanisms that monitor cellular protein biogenesis. One major model system in our laboratory are interleukins, key signaling molecules in our immune system. We use insights into their biogenesis to rationally engineer new immunomodulatory biomolecules. Within our translational department we then develop these proteins into next-generation biopharmaceuticals.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The ideal candidate will work with our translational team to decipher the mechanism of action of engineered immune molecules. For this, biochemical approaches in combination with molecular immunology studies will be combined. Ultimately, these insights will guide the preclinical as well as clinical development of these novel first-in- class biopharmaceuticals. With these new pharmaceuticals we aim to help patients with high-unmet medical need diseases.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Protein expression and purification
• Biochemical and biophysical protein analytics
• Molecular immunology studies
• Ex vivo and in vivo animal studies (in collaboration)
• Translation of basic research into medical application
QUALIFICATIONS
• MSc in biochemistry or similar fields
• Expertise in protein expression, protein purification and biophysical
characterization
• Expertise in mammalian cell culture and molecular immunology is a plus
• Experience in protein engineering as well as (pre-)clinical development of
biopharmaceuticals and molecular immunology is a plus
• Know-how in GLP and GMP requirements is a plus
