Job description:
DESY
In the framework of the HIBEF consortium, our team develops and operates a platform for the study of matter at extreme pressures, temperatures, and strain rates at the HED instrument at European XFEL enabling unprecedented experiments. We are employing diamond anvil cells to generate pressures ranging from atmospheric conditions to multiple megabars. In combination with pulsed IR-laser and X-ray heating we can cover temperatures from ambient to several electron volts. Our approach spans various compression rates, bridging static experiments with dynamic pressure cells driven by piezoelectric actuators extending to laser shock experiments.
About your role:
- Develop script based code for detector calibration and data analysis
- Sample/target design and preparation for extreme conditions experiments
- Perform and participate in experimental campaigns at European XFEL and other facilities
About you:
- Master or equivalent degree in Physics, Earth Sciences, Mineralogy, Chemistry, Material Sciences, or a related field
- Strong motivation to perform in experimental work
- Previous experience in high pressure techniques and X-ray methods is an advantage
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Matlab is highly desirable
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Willingness and availability to travel
