We seek an outstanding Doctoral Candidate to study the Generation, Characterisation, and Application of Nanostructured Lyotropic Liquid Crystalline Gels. The Doctoral Candidate (DC) will be hired within the Doctoral Network MultiSMART, composed of 7 Universities (France, Spain, The Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom) and 3 private sector partners who will hire 11 PhD students in total. The DC will be enrolled in the PhD program of the University Stuttgart. Mobility as well as excellent scientific and soft-skill qualifications of the DC will be promoted throughout the network with (i) common research goals, (ii) two temporary 3-months stays at network partners (secondments), one being in the private sector, (iii) regular schools and workshops. The Doctoral Network is financed by the European Union under the framework of the program HORIZON Europe, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. The DC will be hired for 36 months under contract by the University of Stuttgart with a monthly gross salary of 3200 € (including mobility but excluding family allowance) or 3600 € (including mobility and family allowances). The family allowance depends on the marital status of the DC.

We are looking for candidates (f/m/d) with a Master or Diploma degree in physical chemistry, chemistry, or related subjects with interest in colloid science, surface science, surfactants, gels and/or liquid crystals who enjoy hands-on formulation development. Goals of the PhD project include (i) the formulation and characterisation of lyotropic liquid crystal gels; (ii) the adjustment of the rheology; (iii) suitability tests for using the systems as (transdermal) drug delivery systems.
