The PhD in Medical Sciences programme at the Faculty of Medicine of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is intended for young researchers with a serious interest in pursuing research in the life sciences. They will be awarded the international degree "Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medical Sciences".
Research projects will be assigned to one of the following three theme clusters: Molecular Medicine, Diagnosis and Therapy of Diseases, Health and Society.
Accompanying training sessions within the respective cluster cover current topics of research. These sessions allow for a deepening of the research methods with practical reference. Workshops covering professional and transferable skills are offered within the framework of the Medical Research School Düsseldorf.

A semester fee of approx. 320 EUR is required upon registration/enrolment as a student or doctoral researcher. This fee covers transport by bus, tram, and regional trains within North Rhine-Westphalia for the entire semester as well as the use of student facilities.

Students or doctoral researchers should calculate monthly expenses amounting to at least 1,000 EUR in order to live in a modest way, including costs for housing, food, health insurance, semester fees, study materials, etc.

Applicants must hold a Master's degree (or equivalent) in natural sciences or medicine.
The PhD doctoral regulations at the Faculty of Medicine require a degree with an average grade of 2.0 or better (or ECTS B, or top 25% of class). A conversion of grades will be possible for international students who have a different grading system.

Applicants must provide proof of their German or English skills (CEFR level C1 or higher) depending on the language in which they choose to write their thesis.
