PhD fellowship in biology / life sciences is currently available at the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

We are an international laboratory for matrix biology with up to 25 researchers. Our major goals are to identify novel anti-fibrotic targets, elucidate the underlying pathogenic pathways and come up with candidate therapies for clinical use. We have national and international cooperation partners in academics and pharmaceutical industry.

We are looking for a highly motivated and outstanding PhD student to work on a project focusing on Regulation of tissue memory in fibrosing disorders. The project is closely related to projects within the EULAR Center of Excellence.

We provide excellent resources including a fully-equipped laboratory for conducting experiments to analyze matrix metabolism. The student will work with immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, qPCR, ELISA, WB, nucleofection, siRNA, reporter assay, ChIP assay, among other methods. The student’s project will comprise various in vitro (cell culture) and in vivo systems (genetic and non-genetic mouse models). We offer travel support for conferences, and an excellent international research network.
