The Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MSRM) at the Technical University of Munich is looking for an outstanding applicant for a PhD position in robot perception, embodied AI and manipulation under supervision of Prof. Sami Haddadin.

Description
We are looking for an outstanding PhD student to contribute to the Geriatronics project in the MSRM field laboratories located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. This PhD position will give you a unique opportunity to work on the intersection between perception, embodied AI and manipulation to bring our service humanoid GARMI to the next level. You will be part of a diverse team of highly committed and talented researchers, who support and value each other. The TUM Re-search Center Geriatronics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen offers excellent research conditions, giving you access to cutting-edge technology and a multitude of elderly care facilities, enabling you to test your latest research results directly in the field. On top of that, the beautiful mountain scenery of Garmisch-Partenkirchen provides ideal conditions to recharge, whether you are a nature-lover or a sports enthusiast.

Profile of the ideal candidate
• Master degree or equivalent in a field related to the vacancy • Passion for service humanoids and experience in at least two of the following fields
- Robot perception
- Human-robot interaction
- Manipulation
- (Embodied) AI
- Hard- and software architectures
- Skill learning
- Task and motion planning
• Strong programming skills (preferably Python, C/C++, ROS)
• Ability to integrate third-party software modules
• High flexibility in acquiring new knowledge
• Start-up mentality and “can do”-attitude
• Ability to work well in cross-functional teams with diverse people
• Ability to perform under pressure
• Good German language skills is a plus or at least willingness to learn German is required
• Good communication skills and ability to present complex content to a diverse audience
