GESIS – Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences is an internationally active research institute, funded by federal and state governments and member of the Leibniz Association.

Starting on 01.01.2023 our Department Survey Data Curation (SDC), Team National Studies located in Cologne, is looking for a

 (Salary group 13 TV-L, working time 50%, temporary 01.01.2023 - 31.12.2025)

The department Survey Data Curation (SDC)  processes and prepares social science research data across a diverse range of data types to support sociological and political science research, especially in comparative perspectives across space and time. The curated data include long-running national (e.g., ALLBUS, GLES) and international (e.g., ISSP, CSES) survey programs, which are documented and curated to the highest quality standards, but also research data products derived from or connected to these surveys, such as geo referencing services or trend files.

The Horizon Europe project Push*Back*Lash will conduct research on the contestation of gender equality issues and policies and its impact on democracy and develop a toolkit to counteract anti-gender and anti-feminist discursive strategies. The team is looking for a PhD candidate to support the research on stability and change of gender attitudes on the individual level and on the dynamics in attention toward gender+ equality issues within institutions.


Your tasks will be:
  • Research on the topic of gender politics and democracy in the EU and Turkey
  • Data analysis and policy coding on gender issues
  • Collaboration within the international project team, especially in publishing the results and making them reusable

Your profile:
  • Master or similar qualification in the political science or social sciences
  • Research interest in gender issues and democracy research
  • Excellent quantitative methods skills and experience with statistical packages (e.g., Stata, R)
  • Excellent German and English language skills
