We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied Ph.D. program in the area of Generative AI for Innovation Management. The project, titled "A technical study of behavioral aspects in using Generative AI to Accelerate Early-Stage Entrepreneurial Activities and Business Scaling at BMW," seeks to revolutionize entrepreneurial engagement and practices within BMW. This pioneering research will develop, implement, and evaluate Generative AI tools to support ideation, innovation, and entrepreneurship, especially for the early stages and scaling processes of innovation. This work is aimed at enhancing BMW's intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial efforts and aligns with the company's innovation and AI objectives. This position represents a unique collaboration between BMW's Open Innovation Department and LMU Munich, specifically the Institute for AI in Management. You will be placed at the nexus of industry and academia, contributing to research that is valued in the real world, within an environment that fosters innovation.
What awaits you?
- Conduct creative and independent research focused on leveraging Generative AI to redefine entrepreneurial practices at BMW.
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, bridging the gap between AI technology, behavioral science, and entrepreneurial needs to drive tangible business outcomes.
- Design, implement, and evaluate new, state-of-the-art Generate AI tools at BMW.
- Run experiments (online and in the field) to understand the mechanisms of effective human-AI collaborations.
- Implement new Generative AI tools in the organizational landscape and drive impact.
- Publish research results in leading conferences (e.g., from human-computer interactions).
What should you bring along?
- A master's degree in computer science, business informatics, media informatics, mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or a related field. Also, students from other fields with a sufficient skillset in computational or data-driven topics are welcome (e.g., human factors, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, business with a specialization in digital topics, etc.).
- Experience in business/management is a plus, but not a must.
- Strong software programming background/experience (e.g., Python).
- Fluency in English and basic knowledge of German.
- A pioneering spirit, ready to challenge existing paradigms and contribute to ground-breaking advancements in AI and entrepreneurship.
- Strong interest in and knowledge of topics like machine learning, deep learning, etc. and/or human-computer interactions.
