Programme Description

The German-Czech Fund for the Future was launched by both countries to build bridges between the German and Czech peoples. It specifically supports projects which enhance their relation and further the mutual understanding between them, creating opportunities to gain insight into the reality of people's lives as well as the history and culture they share. Every year, the Fund for the Future offers junior academics the chance to experience the other country, a country some still know so little about. Applicants come from any discipline of the humanities or social sciences, be it history or literature, law or economics. They may be doing a Bachelor's or Master's course, or pursue doctoral studies.

The stay abroad serves to acquire or improve language skills and deepen the knowledge about the culture and society of the neighbouring country. Furthermore, candidates are expected to participate in the host country's academic life and scientific exchange activities. During the funding period, they therefore work on a research project focussing on German-Czech issues, and write a scientific paper (or a Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral thesis) about it, which is then to be submitted. The approach adopted for the individual research proposal plays a decisive role in the selection procedure, which will be carried out by an independent committee.
