Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Institute of Virology, Department of Veterinary Medicine, Freie Universität Berlin (Head: Prof. Dr. Benedikt Kaufer) has an immediate vacancy for a PhD position (TVL-13, 65%). The position is part of the DFG research group FOR5200 DEEP-DV "Disrupt - Evade - Exploit: Gene expression and host response programming in DNA virus infection". The aim is to decipher the mechanisms that contribute to the establishment of human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) latency. In this project, the student will i) investigate whether transcriptional signatures influence the outcome of HHV-6A infection and the decision between lytic replication and latency, ii) investigate the role of integration and the U94 protein in the establishment of latency using recombinant viruses and iii) decipher whether epigenetic modifications and cellular factors influence the outcome of HHV-6A infection. Our studies will shed light on the decision between lytic replication and latency of this ubiquitous human pathogen.

Job description:
The candidate will perform state-of-the-art research on human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) latency in the context of the DFG research group DEEP-DV (FOR5200). In the project, the Praedoc is also involved in planning, performing and evaluating the scientific experiments, and writing reports. Furthermore, the scientific results will be disseminated, presented and published. The activity serves the own scientific qualification
