Exzellenzausschreibungen – EXC 2020 Temporal Communities/ Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School of Literary StudiesResearch associate / Doctoral student (m/f/d) 1/2-part-time job Limited to 3 years Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L FU Reference code: EXCTC DOC RA3_RelBook 2022_EN Bewerbungsende: 14.11.2021

Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Cluster of Excellence 2020 "Temporal Communities: Doing Literature in a Global Perspective" aims to create a new theoretical and methodological take on literature in a global perspective. Introducing the notion of ‘temporal communities’, the Cluster investigates the ways in which literature reaches out through space and time, establishing complex temporalities and extensive transcultural and transtemporal networks as it interacts with other arts and media. The Cluster’s research is conducted within five Research Areas: 1. Competing Communities, 2. Travelling Matters, 3. Future Perfect, 4. Literary Currencies, 5. Building Digital Communities.

From 1 October 2022, 5 positions for research associates (50% part-time, limited to 3 years, pay group 13 TV-L FU) are available at the Cluster (www.temporal-communities.de ).
The research associates will at the same time be members of the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School for Literary Studies as doctoral students: They will complete its curriculum and have access to the mentoring and qualification offers. Doctoral students will have access to travel, conference, and workshop funds.

The position advertised here will be filled in the research project "The Invention of the Modern Religious Bookshelf: Canons, Concepts and Communities" (project lead: Prof. Dr. Christian Meyer located) in Research Area 3 "Future Perfect" of EXC 2020.
The selected candidate will develop and work on a project dealing with "A New Canon of Religious and Alternative Literatures" involving transregional aspects and with a focus on China. The project shall examine the global circulation of religious knowledge with a view to the institutions (publishers, bookstores, libraries, academia) and actors that contributed to the „Invention of the Modern Religious Bookshelf". The case study to be developed can focus on a relevant publisher, series, bookstore, local non-western library systems (e.g. in Taiwan or Hong Kong) or other relevant actors. Its purpose is to analyse the motivations, strategies, local contexts, and transregional networks that were crucial for the origin of the "Religious Bookshelf" in China.
