For the ifo Center for Macroeconomics and Surveys we are looking for a PhD student in economics, with a focus on empirical methods of business cycle research, at the chair of the head of department Prof. Dr. Andreas Peichl at LMU. At the same time, you are a member of the Munich Graduate School of Economics at LMU and participate in its structured doctoral training. You are part of the macroeconomic forecasting team of Prof. Dr. Timo Wollmershäuser, contribute to the preparation of the ifo Business Cycle Forecast, the Joint Economic Forecast and other research projects.

The ifo Institute is one of the leading economic research institutes in Europe. It works on issues relevant to economics and economic policy at the highest scientific level and with an international reach, and develops research-based recommendations for action for politics, business and society. Through its five fields of activity - research, promotion of young researchers, policy advice, participation in public debates and information/service - it helps to maintain and increase sustainable economic prosperity and social participation under constantly changing conditions.

How do the economy and economic growth develop, and what factors influence this development? Macroeconomic research, economic policy analyses and the topics of inequality and redistribution are the focus of the Center for Macroeconomics and Surveys. It regularly collects, prepares and interprets microdata on the economic development of Germany, the European Union and other important countries. This includes the "ifo Business Climate", Germany's leading leading economic indicator.

Your Tasks

  • Collaboration in research projects, especially in the field of business cycle
  • Doctoral studies in economics at the chair of Prof. Dr. Andreas Peichl at the LMU
  • Participation in the structured doctoral program of the Munich Graduate School of Economics at the LMU

Your Qualification

  • Master's degree in economics completed with very good results.
  • Solid knowledge of macroeconomics and time series econometrics
  • Experience with statistical software programs (such as Matlab).
  • Excellent language and formulation skills in English
