The Functional Agrobiodiversity group at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is offering a
Doctoral researcher position (all genders welcome)
in the research project “Interactive effects of local and landscape scale restoration of semi-natural grasslands and agricultural fields on species interactions and ecosystem functions in different social-ecological systems (InterRest)”. The project with partners from six different European countries has been recommended for funding by the ERA-Net BiodivERsA and the national funder will be the German Research Foundation (DFG). The position should be filled as soon as possible not later than 01.03.2022 and it is limited to 36 months, subject to the availability of funds. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (TV-L E13) with 65%, which corresponds to 25.87 working hours per week.
Your duties
InterRest is an interdisciplinary project investigating the effects of restoration in calcareous grasslands, one of Europe’s most species rich habitat types. In particular, the focus is on species interactions including (1) plant-soil, (2) plant-pollinator and (3) bird-food resource interactions, in restored and degraded calcareous grasslands. Additionally, we will investigate the effects of ecosystem functions including soil functions, pollination and predation. The study sites will be embedded in different socio-ecological and landscape contexts in three countries (Germany, Spain and Estonia). The focus of the doctoral research project will be on the analysis of plant-pollinator-interactions in restored and degraded calcareous grasslands along a landscape gradient of land use extensification by agri-enviroment schemes in the three study regions. Moreover, the candidate will be responsible for conducting pollination experiments with wild plant species. In collaboration with the project partners, local and landscape restoration effects on species interactions across taxa and countries will be analysed.
Your profile
- Completed university degree (Master’s degree) in ecology, biology, agriculture or a related discipline
- Research focus on biodiversity, pollination ecology and ecosystem services
- Very good knowledge of ecological statistics (using R)
- Good knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Proficiency in English and German
- Experience in scientific writing and publishing
- Driving licence (class B)
- Enthusiasm to conduct field work and to travel to project meetings and international conferences
The project will be based in Göttingen and fieldwork will be done in southern Lower Saxony and adjacent provinces.
