About us:
At the RTG 2088, we develop new mathematical concepts for the efficient reconstruction and classification of relevant structural information in data sets. In doing so, we benefit from an interplay between approaches in statistics, optimization and inverse problems. We offer an interdisciplinary qualification program that equips our graduate students with a broad set of skills for analyzing data – also beyond the scientific scope of our RTG.

More information about the RTG 2088 is provided on our website: https://www.uni-goettingen.de/rtg2088 .

The position:
You will conduct research in project A4, which deals with statistics and optimization on non-Euclidean spaces with applications in biometrics.

Additionally, you will take part in our study program, which includes special lectures and seminars, our annual RTG workshop, regular meetings with other PhD students as well as with your thesis advisory committee, and a course on good scientific practice.

Your profile:
As a successful candidate, you
• hold an excellent or very good Master’s degree (or equivalent) in mathematics or physics,
• have strong interest in Mathematical and Multivariate Statistics, Optimization and/or Geometry and a reliable background in one of these areas,
• are proficient in written and spoken English,
• have gained some relevant experience in programming (e.g., Python, R, C++).

How to apply:
Please use our online portal for your application including the following documents:
