The Faculty of Chemistry is a member of the graduate school "Georg-August University School of Science" (GAUSS). This is where the doctoral training is concentrated. The faculty offers PhD studies at the highest scientific level, during which the PhD students participate in supplementary lectures according to their individual field of interest and gain teaching experience while pursuing their research activities.

Credits to be taken can be taken individually and flexibly during the course of study. There is a wide range of lectures and seminars in chemistry as well as in the neighbouring faculties of natural sciences. In addition, key competence modules, e.g. language courses, can be taken according to the student's own interests.

During the doctoral studies, the doctoral candidates are integrated into the teaching at the faculty and supervise, e.g. laboratory practicals or exercise groups. The teaching performance is recognised with credits in the doctoral programme. A tutor school can be attended to build up one's own teaching skills.

Fees are around 400 EUR per semester. The fees include a prepaid semester ticket that entitles students to use regional trains (in Lower Saxony and Bremen) and city buses in Göttingen free of charge. Students of the University of Göttingen receive discounts for cultural events. Meals and drinks are also available at reduced prices at all university canteens.
