The Semiconductor Quantum Nanomaterials (SQNM) Group at the Walter Schottky Institut & Physics Department offers 5 PhD Student positions in 2022. The positions are in the areas of (1) Integrated Photonics / Nanolasers, (2) Nanowire Hot-Carrier Solar Cells, (3) Advanced Nano-Thermoelectrics, (4) SiGe Integrated Optoelectronics, (5) Atomically Thin 2D-Nitride Materials.

The Semiconductor Quantum Nanomaterials (SQNM) Group at the Walter Schottky Institute (WSI) at Technical University of Munich (TUM) offers 5 PhD Student positions. Founded more than 30 years ago, the Walter Schottky Institute has grown to an internationally recognized landmark for research in advanced semiconductor-based nanostructures and quantum systems, interfacing disciplines of physics, materials science and electrical engineering. Nowadays, a wide range of research themes in nanoscale materials science, optics, quantum technologies and energy sciences are pursued at WSI in conjuction with the Center for Nanotechnology and Nanomaterials, offering extensive cutting-edge facilities in the development and exploration of innovative nano- and quantum-scale systems and devices for next-generation technologies.

For the upcoming year 2022, the SQNM group at WSI is recruiting up to 5 highly talented PhD student candidates on projects supported by third-party funds. Specifically, the SQNM (Koblmüller) Group which hosts the 5 positions currently pursues important themes in the areas of integrated nanoscale coherent light sources, advanced-concept solar cells, new and improved nano-thermoelectric systems, and the development of novel in-situ growth of advanced III-V nanostructured and 2D-layered materials with atomic precision. Hereby, the group with its new prospective PhD students enjoys strong links to several Clusters of Excellence, the Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST) and e-conversion, as well as Integrative Research Centers and Schools, e.g., the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), the International Graduate School for Science and Engineering (IGSSE), and the Munich School of Engineering (MSE).

Our new incoming PhD students can expect a diversity-conscious, internationally-minded program in a research and educational environment of highest international standards. We therefore encourage candidates to apply with appropriate scientific background, holding ideally a M.Sc. degree in physics, electrical engineering, materials science or similar with outstanding academic track record. Candidates should also possess exceptional motivation and creativity, combined with very good communications skils and proficiency in English (oral and written).

Please submit applications with reference to the TUM Job Portal and the topic of interest by Email to: [email protected]. We ask you to include in your application a cover letter (motivation), CV, list of 3 references and relevant documentation (transcripts of records, certificates). The application deadline is January 31, 2022, but positions will remain open until filled.
