The Department of Clinical Chemistry at the University Medical Center Göttingen is seeking:
- Specialization: to study the role of blood vessels in cancer progression
- Limitation: we are offering the position for three years
- Working period: part-time (25,025 h/week)
- Tariff: salary according to TV-L

- Vacancy from 06.12.2022
- Application deadline: 31.01.2023
Scientifically, the Department of Clinical Chemistry focuses on how blood vessels control their microenvironment and how this contributes to organ function and disease. By combining cell culture and animal models with modern omics technologies, we aim to deeply investigate how the organ-specific endothelium is altered by obesity and cancer and how this subsequently contributes to organ function and disease progression (Wieland, Cancer Cell 2017, Jabs, Circulation 2018, Hasan, EMBO Mol Med 2021, Alsina Sanchis, Cancer Res 2022).
In her/his project, the highly motivated PhD candidate will work on the characterization of cancer-induced systemic changes on endothelial cell transcription, protein expression and metabolism (project #1) and its consequences on muscle and adipose tissue function (project #2). The PhD students will be trained in primary cell culture including organoids, genome manipulation, cell imaging, as well as cellular and molecular biology techniques.
Your tasks:
- designing, planning and executing experiments independently in the specific research project
- establishing novel technologies and optimizing workflows
- collaborating with team members and external partners
Your profile:
- university degree (MSc or equivalent) in disciplines or fields related to biology, biochemistry or molecular biology with very good grades
- strong interest in basic research
- substantial background in cell signaling, cardiovascular biology or cancer biology
- hands-on experiences in cell culture, microscopy and molecular biology methods
- first experience with animal models is not a prerequisite but an advantage for the position
- high proficiency in English
- high level of motivation, ability to work in a team, proactive personality, scientific curiosity and willingness to learn
Our offer:
- exciting and biomedically relevant research projects, within a creative and stimulating scientific environment with access to a broad spectrum of high-end technology and opportunities for extensive interdisciplinary collaborations.
