Offer Description

Project description

In Normandie, the important volumes of sediments dredged periodically in the ports and waterways and soil contaminated by diffrents industries require the development of efficient remediation methods combining various processes. The REMACISS project aims to improve the efficiency of electrokinetic remediation technology by coupling it with the application of magnetic induction for pollution-affected soils and sediments. A numerical model will also be developed to describe electrochemical processes coupled with magnetic induction. The outcome of this work is the development of a technology better suited to the in-situ remediation of multi-contaminated soils or sediments, and it is expected that the project will overcome the scientific hurdles associated with electrokinetics applied to heterogeneous soils in order to obtain reliable data in terms of the efficiency of the coupling of the two precesses. Ultimately, we will need to design and develop a field-scale reactor that can handle larger volumes of material and be deployed in different pollution situations. This approach, which combines numerical and experimental modelling, represents a break with the usual approaches adopted in previous studies. This innovative project will be carried out within the Civil Engineering and Environment team of the LOMC (UMR 6294).

Key words: Electro-remediation, soil, sediment, pollutants, resilience
