Offer Description

Nucleosides, nucleotides and oligonucleotides play an important role in medicinal chemistry to treat bacterial and viral infections as well as various deseases. In front of the important role of fluorine atoms in medicinal chemistry, the project aims to develop new series of fluorinated nucleos(t)ides and oligonucleotides. In these series, different organofluorine groups will be introduced in the 2' and 3' positions. To this end, new synthetic methodologies for efficiently and selectively introducing fluoroalkyl groups on these positions will be developed. These convergent synthetic strategies will involve ionic and radical approaches. During this 3-years PhD work, the person recruited will develop solid experience in multi-step synthesis (sugars, nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotides) as well as in the synthetic methodology of fluorinated derivatives. The project, at the chemistry-biology interface, will be carried out in close collaboration with chemists and biologists, and will offer to the person recruited the opportunity to be trained in related topics.
