The Department of Communications and Networking (Comnet), School of Electrical Engineering, Aalto University (http://comnet.aalto.fi/en ) is a multi-disciplinary unit of research and higher education covering communications and networking technology, networking business, and human aspects of communications. Cyber security is one of the focus areas under the first. In its areas, Comnet is the largest unit in Finland. It has successfully performed a number of national and international research projects. In the focus area of cyber security, Comnet studies trust, security and privacy solutions for 5G/6G, IoT, blockchain, social networking and cloud/edge computing, etc.

We are now looking for a talented and highly motivated

Post-doctor Candidate in IoT and Wireless Security

You will conduct research and doctoral studies in the area of IoT and Wireless Security in a very independent way with supervision. Alternatively, your research topic may be focused to wireless security, physical security, machine learning, trusted computing, privacy preservation, data analytics, positioning system. You will be working in an international and cross-disciplinary team lead by Dr. Zheng Yan (https://people.aalto.fi/zheng.yan ).

  • What is included in the job?

You are requested to conduct research in the field of IoT and wireless security and publish a number of publications in reputable forums. You should also spend your efforts in teaching and mentoring, assisting team routine work, project management, project applications, as well as doing academic services (e.g., IEEE conference organization). You are expected to be highly motivated in pursuing your academic career development.

Requirements

The candidate must have a PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or in a related study with excellent results. The candidate must have a high motivation for research, and enjoy working in an international and cross-disciplinary team. You have good programming skills, preferable in multiple languages. You are capable of rigorous thinking and work independently. You communicate fluently in English, both orally and in writing. You should have good organization and mentor skills, high responsibility in fulfilling the tasks assigned to you. Previous publications and a strong background in security, privacy and trust, as well as mathematics, particularly physical security, wireless communication, machine learning, trusted computing, network security protocol design, and cryptography are appreciated. Previous top-level scientific publications are considered a plus. Previous experience in wireless communications is considered a plus.

Research group

The cyber trust research team has in depth knowledge and expertise in trust, security and privacy, as well as data analytics and has wide cooperation with other famous research teams all over the world, e.g., US, Singapore, Canada, China, etc. We have researched information security, trust management, trusted computing and privacy preservation in the field of 5G/6G, backscatter communications, blockchain, cloud computing, Internet of Things, social networking and mobile application already for more than 20 years with outstanding outcomes and we have a strong network of collaborators and funding. The group has two professors (Raimo Kantola and Zheng Yan), 2 senior researchers and about 15 doctoral candidates and a number of research assistants working with world class research facilities. Researchers of the unit have received several awards in highly recognized international conferences, IEEE, and European Union, and we publish 30-40 papers in reputable forums annually.

Salary and contract terms

The expected starting salary for a post-doctoral candidate is approximately 3700 €/month and salary will increase with responsibilities and performance over time. The contract includes occupational health benefits and Finland has a comprehensive social security system. Preferable starting time is April of 2021 for 1-2 years, which can be further extended.
