Doctoral student position in Mobile Robotics

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation Mobile Robotics group is looking for a talented and highly motivated Doctoral Student in Mobile Robotics.

Robots are boldly entering dynamic, ever changing reality, to facilitate that move the robots need to understand and adhere to the dynamics present in the environment (human motion, wind and water flows etc.). Mobile Robotics group at Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering works actively to develop methods for robotic systems that operate in the ever-changing reality, with focus on human centered environments.

The research in the prosed position will focus on problems related to building spatial models of dynamics and utilizing them for improved motion planning in changing environments.

Your background

A candidate should have a M.Sc. or equivalent degree in a suitable area or be a M.Sc. student in a final phase of their studies. The candidate should have strong analytical and writing skills (proficiency in spoken and written English is a must), and experience or genuine interest in robotics and autonomous systems. Candidates are expected to also have good programming skills (C/C++, Python, Linux, ROS). Background in probabilistic machine learning is a plus.

About the Responsibilities

In addition to research work, persons hired are expected to participate in the supervision of students and teaching following the standard practices at the department.

We offer

The position is fixed-term and filled initially for 1 year with an option for extension until the end of 4-year PhD studies. The starting salary for a doctoral student position is approximately 2500 €. In addition to the salary, the contract includes occupational health care benefits, and Finland has a comprehensive social security system. The annual total workload of teaching staff at Aalto University is 1612 hours. The working language at the Aalto university is English.
