The doctoral candidate will work at the Department of Marketing and International Business at the Turku School of Economics. The Department offers a multidisciplinary and international work environment, which combines ambitious research, high-quality teaching, and good work atmosphere.

The objective of research conducted by the Marketing faculty is to benefit business and society by solving key marketing related challenges in the rapidly changing and complex business environment. As a strategic function, marketing aims at creating value with the customer and other stakeholders. Research in the Marketing subject focuses on three core themes: 1) Dynamics of business markets; 2) Value-driven B2B marketing; and 3) Customer experience and journeys.

The position will be for a fixed term of maximum of four years. The position may be granted for a maximum of four years based on the stage of the applicant’s doctoral dissertation and postgraduate studies.

Duties

The position of a doctoral candidate is a postgraduate position. In addition to conducting doctoral dissertation research and postgraduate studies in the area of marketing, doctoral candidate will also be involved in tasks supporting teaching, such as planning and coordination of teaching in Marketing and some administrative tasks.

Requirements

According to the University of Turku rules of procedure, a person selected for the post of doctoral candidate is required to have a higher university degree and must have an accepted research plan. In addition, when acquiring his or her degree or otherwise, he or she is required to have demonstrated the ability and motivation to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan.

The application must show both the applicant's motivation for postgraduate studies and the progress of the postgraduate studies so far. Previous experience in teaching and administrative tasks and the suitability of the research topic to the profile of the subject are considered in favour of the applicant. A good knowledge of written and spoken English is a prerequisite and the ability to speak Finnish is considered a benefit.

Who may apply:

  • persons, who already have a study right to pursue a doctoral degree and
  • persons applying for postgraduate study right in the spring or autumn 2022 call. Person, who does not have a study right the job title is Project Researcher.
  • Salary

    The salary for the post is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. The salary for the doctoral candidate is about 2200 euros per month depending on the stage of postgraduate studies in the beginning of employment.

    A trial period of six (6) months will apply.
