Infotech Oulu Institute is one of the four strategic focus institutes at the University of Oulu supporting high-quality research, coordinating multidisciplinary research activities and doctoral training. Infotech’s science-based expertise meets global challenges determined in the strategy of the University of Oulu (UO) in the focus area” Digitalization and smart society” exploring how digitalization can work for everyone. The research topics include sensing and ubiquitous wireless sensor systems, wireless communication, and other novel services and systems. The research targets future information infrastructures and integrates aspects of technology adoption by complex human groups, communities, and societies.

We are now looking for

One Doctoral Student and One Postdoctoral Researcher

in 3D computer vision to join our multi-talented team to work for the project A Framework for General Spatial AI.

The faculty and the research group

Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis (CMVS) is a creative, open, and internationally attractive research unit that focuses on creating multimodal emotional interfaces for human-centered computing, energy and label efficient visual representation learning, recognition and reconstruction of complex 3D visual scenes, energy efficient embedded vision solutions, biomedical signal and image analysis and biometrics.  The research unit is renowned for its expertise in computer vision, and it possesses a wide international collaboration network.

Open position for a doctoral student

  • A person selected to the doctoral student position is expected to carry out research on computer vision, and more specifically 3D vision and machine learning.
  • The main duty in the position is to publish research papers in leading scientific conferences and journals that provide the basis for writing and defending the PhD thesis during the last year of the project.
  • The task also includes studying postgraduate courses with the minimum requirement of 40 ECTS credits. Some minor teaching duties may be included in the doctoral training.

Qualification requirements for a doctoral student

  • We expect master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Research / work experience in computer vision and deep learning. Experience in geometric or 3D vision is appreciated.
  • Good programming skills (e.g. Python, C/C++).
  • Fluent English communications skills (reading, writing, speaking).

Open position for a postdoctoral researcher

  • A person selected to the postdoctoral researcher position is expected to carry out research on computer vision, and more specifically 3D vision and machine learning.
  • The main duty in the position is to publish research papers in top scientific conferences and journals including CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, TPAMI, TIP and IJCV.
  • Advising the doctoral student in the project is included in the task as well as some minor teaching duties.

Qualification requirements for a postdoctoral researcher

  • We expect doctoral degree in a field of computer vision. The doctoral degree must have been received no more than 10 years ago.
  • The successful candidate must have at least 4 years research / work experience in computer vision. Experience in geometric or 3D vision is beneficial.
  • Good programming skills (e.g. Python, C/C++).
  • Fluent English communications skills (reading, writing, speaking).
  • You are able to work independently.

Salary

The salary of the selected doctoral student will be in accordance with the Finnish universities salary system for teaching and research personnel: level 2-4. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2400-2500€ per month (before taxes).

The salary of the selected postdoctoral researcher will be in accordance with the Finnish universities salary system for teaching and research personnel: level 5-6. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 3500-4000€ per month (before taxes).

6)     Contact information of two senior/experienced researchers who may be asked to give a statement on the candidate

Further information

The positions are fixed-term for maximum 4 years from 1st of January 2022 and ending 31.12.2025. A trial period of 6 months is applied in the positions.
