Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
starting January 1, 2022, limited to June 30, 2024 with the option for extension. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD). Balancing family and career is an important issue. The chair is investigating models, algorithms and solutions to manage and control sustainable transport systems, such as energy-saving driving, the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, and traffic control in the context of connected and highly automated driving (C-ITS). Our employees support our goal of creating a sustainable, safe transport system with their work.
Tasks: Collaboration in the research project Jena5G-V2X "5G-based V2X networking to increase traffic safety and optimise multimodal transport and energy supply in Jena". The development, publication and presentation of scientific publications at national and international conferences. Publications at national and international conferences as well as journals are expected.
Focal points are:
Conceptual design and project work in the field of C-ITS and C-V2X,
Continued development and implementation of algorithms for traffic light queue length estimation and switching time prognosis, traffic situation determination and prognosis,
Traffic engineering design, programming of control unit for traffic lights,
Modelling and simulation in SUMO/VISSIM.
Requirements: Very good university degree in traffic engineering or similar. Theoretical and practical (technical) understanding in the field of traffic signal systems; organisational skills and ability to work in a team; high motivation and self-critical scientific approach; profound analytical understanding at least; fluent in written and spoken German or English. Programming skills in an object-oriented programming language as well as the handling of databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), experience in research projects and in the subject area of automated/assisted driving are desirable. A high level of motivation to pursue a doctorate is considered a plus.
